Riding the Cape Argus Cycle Tour 2014 – On a Bicycle Made for Two!

Just when my hopes of cycling the Cape Argus Cycle Tour 2014 on a tandem bicycle were coming to an end, a rather special man by the name of Gustav at Bike and Saddle came to the rescue with this rather spectacular bicycle for two!

Most bicycle rental companies in Cape Town sold out months ago, so finding a two-seated mean machine at this late stage was no easy task, but Gustav saved the day (and my legs), and I absolutely cannot wait for the next 152 days to pass, so we can head off once again on the world’s largest timed cycle race.

Don’t get me wrong, cycling those 109km on your own does give you a real sense of achievement, but having ‘been there and done that’ in 2013 (got the medal and t-shirt!), I can tell you that I am very much looking forward to taking a back seat in 2014… quite literally!

Of course that doesn’t mean my other half will be doing all the hard work… It just means that we will get up Chapman’s Peak and Suikerbossie twice as fast (that’s the plan anyway), and that we might even get a finishing time that we would consider posting on this blog!

The winning tandem time of the Cape Argus 2013 was 02:53:58 – and if that was per cyclists, we could be in with a chance!
