Stellenbosch Cycle Tour 2016: Entries Open Next Week!

If you dread the thought of packing your bike away for winter, why not treat yourself to a pre-Christmas break, and book a last-minute holiday to sunny South Africa for the newly renamed Medihelp Stellenbosch Cycle Tour.

A fabulous one day, 97km cycling event through what has to be one of Cape Town’s most beautiful wine regions, the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour is not only a brilliant ride, but it is also a premier seeding event for the iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour that is set to take place on 12th March 2017, and so if you intend to sign up for the ‘Argus’ next spring, this is one race that you really shouldn’t miss!

The second largest road cycling event in the Western Cape, the Medihelp Stellenbosch Cycle Tour is suitable for both professional and hobby cyclists, and while it is not quite as challenging as it’s big brother, the Cape Town Cycle Tour, it does have a few climbs that will get your legs tingling, with 1285-metres of ascent in total, which starts just a short ride from the start line with the infamous Helshoogte Pass.

The Medihelp Stellenbosch Cycle Tour will take place on Sunday, 4th December 2016, when temperatures in the Western Cape average at around 30° degrees and you can expect around 10 hours of sunshine every day.

Just a short hop from Cape Town (a 45-minute drive), Stellenbosch is a beautiful holiday destination in its own right, especially if you enjoy New World Wines, but you could easily base yourself in South Africa’s Mother City and transfer over to Stellenbosch on race day if you would prefer to be right in the centre of all the action.

Entries for the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour 2016 open this Tuesday, 18th October at 1pm, so why not register and end your cycling year on a high…!
