The Stellenbosch Cycle Tour 2016: A Winter Challenge for European Cyclists

The cycling season has finally arrived in the Northern Hemisphere, well almost, and if you are already thinking about your next cycling challenge overseas, you will be pleased to know that there is a new kid on the block in the Equatours portfolio, namely the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour in South Africa!

Taking place at the end of November / beginning of December each year (the 2016 date is still to be confirmed), the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour is not only a spectacular one-day 97km race across the magnificent Western Cape Winelands, but it is also a premier seeding event for the iconic Cape Town Cycle Tour next March.

The perfect end-of-season wind down for international cyclists who want to top up their mileage before winter arrives, the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour combines perfectly with a trip to Cape Town, the Garden Route, and even a Kruger Park Safari, and as November is the start of summer in the Southern Hemisphere, you can top up your tan along with your kilometres!

While perhaps not as popular as the Cape Town Cycle Tour (yet!), the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour is growing in popularity year by year, with some 7,500 cyclists lining up to tackle the arduous climb of Helshoogte Pass, which happens to be right at the beginning of the race, before enjoying the long descent towards Franschhoek.  From there, the route continues to Paarl and then on to Stellenbosch, where finalists can enjoy a refreshing glass of Sauvignon Blanc from one of the many wineries in the region as they toast their success.

We are delighted to announce that Equatours has secured guaranteed international entries for the Stellenbosch Cycle Tour, and we are currently finalising a fantastic 7-night package for those who want to join in this annual event… so grab your bike, your cycle shorts, and your wine glass, and watch this space!!
