The Cape Town Cycle Tour is great fun to ride on any type of bike, but if you want to share the load with your best buddy, riding on a Tandem is definitely the way to go!
Renting a bike in Cape Town for the Cape Town Cycle Tour is relatively easy, but you need to do it at least 8 months in advance if you want to secure a good road bike at a decent price. If you want to rent a Tandem for the Cape Town Cycle Tour, well, it’s a bit like finding a needle in a haystack. There are some tandems available, but most bicycle-rental companies in Cape Town only stock 1 or two, so if you really want to get your hands on one – you should book now for the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2016!
We managed to secure a good tandem road bike for the Cape Argus in March this year, and the experience was even better than we imagined. Having never ridden a tandem before, it took some getting used to, but after a day or two cycling along the Atlantic Seaboard, we soon got the hang of it and race day was a blast!
As a co-pilot, you have absolutely no access to gears or breaks, so you need to rely on your pilot completely, but with no responsibilities other than pedalling and checking the traffic behind you, you can really enjoy the scenery and enjoy some witty banter with the crowd – which is plentiful on race day!
Other rides will tell your pilot you are a) not cycling, b) doing your nails, c) drinking a beer, d) asleep… but you know what ,the whole experience is amazing – and Chapman’s Peak and Suikerbossie are a breeze on a bicycle made for two!
See you on March 8th – look out for Team Equatours on the white tandem!
