The Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum MTB Challenge is the perfect warm-up event for Mountain Bike riders who love nothing more than heading down onto the dirt for a real off-road adventure!
An official part of the Cape Argus Lifecycle Week, the MTB Challenge is a two-day event that will take you to the Western Cape Winelands and the greater Simonsberg Conservancy, a beautiful area which sits approximately 50km from Cape Town.
Designed to cater for both professional Mountain Bikers and novices who are looking a fun family event, the Cape Argus Mountain Bike Challenge features two different routes per day, ranging from 14km – 22k on day one, and 38km – 55km on day two, and vertical ascents ranging from a rather moderate 270m to a whopping 1500m depending on the route you choose.
The Cape Argus Pick n Pay Momentum MTB Challenge usually takes place the weekend before the annual Cape Argus Cycle Tour in Cape Town, and if you are brave enough to enter and complete both events, you will receive a special medal in the post to mark your achievement!
International travellers who want to take part in both the Cape Argus MTB Challenge and the Cape Argus Cycle Tour in 2015 will be pleased to know that they can cycle both events with a mountain bike, but if you want a road bike for the main event on 8th March, you’ll have to bring one with you or try to rent one in town.
I say ‘try to rent one’ as sourcing a quality road bike in Cape Town during the Cape Argus Lifecycle Week is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, so if you do intend to rent, do yourself a favour and do it now!
Considered one of the biggest mountain bike events in South Africa, the Cape Argus MTB Challenge will warm you up nicely for the Cape Argus Cycle Tour, and with a full week to enjoy between the two events, you can make the most of Cape Town and the stunning Wine Regions of the Western Cape.
